Stop FOCA
Save HYDE
Campaign
To prevent the largest expansion of abortion since 1973 in the upcoming 111th Congress, pro-lifers will need to defeat the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) and save the Hyde Amendment. Visit our two websites to learn how you can be involved.

EDUCATE YOURSELF AND OTHERS:
What is the Hyde Amendment? What is FOCA?
There are many threats to human life in the upcoming 111th Congress, but two stand as the most grave: the defeat of the Hyde Amendment and the passage of FOCA.
Hyde Amendment
What is the Hyde Amendment?
Originally enacted in 1976, the Hyde Amendment is a pro-life amendment that restricts the direct federal funding of abortion through Medicaid.
If the Hyde Amendment is not passed in 2009, women eligible for Medicaid would have their abortion paid for by the Federal Government, and in turn, your tax dollars. If abortions are free to the individual, you can bet on abortion rates increasing.
What are the chances the Hyde Amendment will not be passed?
Because it is an amendment in the federal budget, the Hyde Amendment must be passed every year to protect our tax dollars. Unlike FOCA (which could or could not come to the surface), the Hyde Amendment will have to be dealt with in 2009.
In fact, in the abortion industry's marching orders to President-elect Obama just released this past week, the number one priority in regards to abortion is the reversal of the Hyde Amendment (see top left of page 7).
There is a very real and pertinent chance that the Hyde Amendment will not survive the first 100 days of the Obama Administration. If that is the case, our "hides" will be paying for abortion with our taxes!
Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA)
What is FOCA?
FOCA is a pro-abortion bill in both the U.S. House and Senate that President Obama claimed he was committed to signing into law.
What would FOCA do?
The passage of the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) would lead to the greatest expansion of abortion since 1973. Specifically, FOCA would:
*
Make Partial-Birth abortion legal again.
*
Force tax-dollar funding of abortion.
*
Invalidate all state pro-life laws restricting abortion, meaning:
o
Minors could have abortions without parental consent or notification.
o
No waiting periods or information on positive alternatives to abortions.
o
Doctors and hospitals would be forced to perform abortions.
What are the chances that FOCA will pass?
Because President-elect Obama and others claimed they will move on FOCA as their "first-priority", there is a realistic chance of FOCA passing. Since many pro-life groups and individuals have been causing a stink about FOCA, the Democratic leadership and pro-abortion groups have lowered it among their priorities for 2009. However, this does not mean that FOCA should be taken lightly.
We must act against FOCA and Hyde simultaneously if we wish to stop the greatest expansion of abortion since 1973.
